High Heel Drag Queen Race 2010

Photo Credit:Alfredo Flores, Special to Metromix

The annual High Heel Drag Queen Race is one of the DC area’s more unique Halloween events. Held on the Tuesday before the 31st, thousands of spectators line up to catch a glimpse of costumed drag queens showing off their elaborate outfits and racing down 17th Street in Dupont Circle. The event was first held in 1985, with more than 100 drag queens strolled up and down the “runway” prior to the race. The three-block race itself—from R to Church Street on 17th--lasted a mere 30 seconds, but the party ensued for hours. Here are the street party pics!
